Midlandscooters.com A history
In the beginning ..
Mark Baker had the original idea for midlandscooters.com back in 2001 whilst out for the day in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The idea for midlandscooters.com was hatched, and in Marks words :-
"In the summer of 2001, I sat with my kids in a restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon, gazing out at the line of race bikes which always flock there every sunny weekend. I sat there thinking how I wished the regular Sunday ride outs from Birmingham still took place, as with commitments, its difficult to get away for weekend runs.
My eyes ran up and down the large line of bikes as I began to imagine what a feeling I would have, if I was part of a large group of scooterists riding past with pride.
The bikes seemed to disappear into obscurity as the thoughts whirled around my head. Surely there must be many scooterists like me that have a burning passion for scooters but due to responsibilities and/or circumstances the passion is currently being curtailed
In the summer of 2002, we rode to Walsall, Stourport, Bridgenorth, Kidderminster, Shrewsbury, Evesham and of course Stratford-Upon-Avon when over 300 scooters were out in force.
Since then the committee and its successive chairman (Mark Baker, Si Baker and Phil Roe) have all worked hard to keep this tradition going in the midlands.
The season of 2002 was followed by :-
2003
Custom Show and Vintage Show at Bloxwich, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Stratford Upon Avon, Ironbridge, Cannock Case, Worcester, Selly Oak Children's Hospital Toy Run.
2004
Easter Egg Run, Custom and Vintage Show at Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon, Swancote Club and Lido, Stourport-upon-Severn, Milford Common, Warwick, Selly Oak Children's Hospital Toy Run.
2005
Easter Egg run, VMSC - Custom Show, Evesham, Swancote, Stratford-Upon-Avon ,Waterfront at Kingsbury, Milford Common, Selly Oak Children's Hospital Toy Run.
2006
Easter Egg run, VMSC - Custom Show, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Treasure Hunt, Broadway, Upton upon Severn, Ironbridge, Milford Common, Atherstone, Selly Oak Children's Hospital Toy Run.
The signature ride outs have become the Easter egg run, VMSC custom show, Stratford-Upon-Avon and the Toy Run.
As well as ride outs there have been several supported dos for midlandscooters.com, one of with was the summer in Solihull do which was a ride out followed by live bands and tunes at the Coach House in Solihull. This still comes up in conversation today as a cracking day out in good company on one of the hottest days of the year by scooterist and non scooterists who were in Solihull and joined in.
Others include bands at the Rover Social club put on by Brendan with different bands. Scooter Sundays which are a smaller more informal get together with the help of Mal Evans. Not forgetting the midlandscooters.com xmas do.
These combined efforts just add another cog in the scootering wheel that keep the tradition of scootering alive.
Its not all just about getting your scoot out and riding though, midlandscooters.com supporters have raised thousands of pounds for charity causes since 2002.The latest year 2005 ,2000 was raised for Acorns Hospice, Reynalds Cross special school and Speak out an autistic support group.
The charity money is the generosity of scooterists chipping into the collection buckets on ride out days and ticket sales for supported dos.
Sponsors are also on our website and donate to the charity, so please support them where you can.
So get you scoot out, get your mates together , bring a couple of quid for the good causes and join us on our days out. Lets have a bit of fun, do our bit to keep scootering alive and help some good causes along the way.
